BACK:
1. Cast on 74 sts on size 3.00 mm
needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 2.8 ins.
Inc 20 sts evenly across the row to 94 sts
total.
2. Change to size 3.75 mm needles and
stocking stitch. Work even until piece
measures 7.8 ins (54 rows), excluding
ribbing.
3. Cap sleeves. Cast on 7 sts for cap
sleeve(s) at the beg of the next 2 rows
(total 108 sts). Continue until armhole
measures 4.9 ins (34 rows), with 108 sts
remaining.
4. Shape neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 46 sts. Slip the next 16 sts to a holder. With a
second ball of yarn, work remaining 46 sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 6 times, then dec 1 st at
neck edge every other row 6 times, until 34 sts remain.
5. Work even until armhole measures 8.4 ins (58 rows).
6. Cast off 34 shoulder sts loosely.
FRONT:
1-2 Follow steps 1,2 as for back.
3. Armhole. Cast on cap sleeve at both
ends, as for back. Continue until
armhole measures 3.5 ins (24 rows),
with 108 sts remaining.
4. Shape neck. Work both sides at the
same time. Work 47 sts. Slip the next
14 sts to a holder. With a second ball of
yarn, work remaining 47 sts. Dec 1 st at
neck edge every row 6 times, then dec
1 st at neck edge every other row 7
times, until 34 sts remain.
5. Work even until armhole measures 8.4 ins (58 rows). Cast off 34 shoulder sts loosely.
LEFT SHOULDER SEAM:
1. Use backstitch to sew front to back along left shoulder seam.
SCOOP NECK ROLLED EDGE COLLAR: by hand on size 3.75 mm needles.
Note. The rolled edge collar is worked in stocking stitch, which will roll naturally, with the purl side
showing. If you prefer to work on a circular needle, and eliminate the collar seam, sew the right
shoulder before starting the collar.
1. With right side of work facing, pick up and knit 21 sts from right back neck edge, 16 sts from back
neck holder, 21 sts from left back neck edge, 28 sts from left front neck edge, 14 sts from front
neck holder, and 28 sts from right front neck edge. Total 128 sts.
2. Knit 1.5 ins (12 rows). Cast off loosely.
3. Finishing. Sew remaining shoulder seam. Sew collar seam with invisible seam. Collar can be left to
roll naturally, or tacked in place. For a fuller look, it can be stuffed and then tacked in place.
RIGHT SHOULDER SEAM: as for left shoulder seam.
CAP SLEEVE RIBBING: by hand on size 3.00 mm needles.
1. With right side of work facing, pick up and knit 118 sts along cap sleeve edge by picking up one st
for every row.
2. Dec to 81 by: P 4 P2tog *(P 1 P2tog)* 36 times P 4
3. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 0.8 ins (approx 8 rows). Cast off loosely in ribbing.
FINISHING:
1. Sew side seams using invisible seam. Use backstitch to sew remaining seams.
2. Sew in all loose ends.
AMOUNT OF YARN REQUIRED TO KNIT GARMENT:
1.0 Ball/skein knits 50.0 stitches by 107.0 rows.
Amount needed:
  • 4.0 for body and
    sleeves
  • 1.0 for ribbing
  • 0.3 for collar/hood
  • 5.3 Ball/skein TOTAL
NOTES:
I never did knit this actual pattern for the imaginary dragon. However, back in 1993, I did use this
yarn to knit a similar top for my sister Carol, or so I thought, until daughter Kendra snaffled it...
It really is a glorious green color and fun to knit with.
