PANTS LEFT LEG:
- Start at the bottom of the leg. Work a folded hem as follows. Cast on 81 sts in MY,
using open edge method and dial/gauge 2. Work 8 rows. Reset row counter to 4.
Lift the hem towards you, being careful not to lose any sts, and hang the cast on sts
into the open latches above (2 sts in each needle). Knit the next row carefully.
- Leg shaping. Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then every following 8th row 3 times,
until 73 sts remain. Work even to total 32 rows. COR.
- Crotch shaping. Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next
row.
- Work short rows for back bottom shaping as follows. Place 33 left hand needles in
HP. Knit 2 rows. *Put 2 more needles to HP. Knit 2 rows.* Repeat from * to * 11 times
more.
- Hips to waist. Place all needles back in WP/FWP again. Work even to total 92 rows
(at back). COR.
- Waistband. (Instructions following are for rib. Optionally work lace holes, garter
stitch, elastic casing, etc. ) Change to dial/gauge 1.5. Decrease 18 sts evenly
across the row to 47 sts. Work 4 rows in 1x1 rib. Cast off loosely using backstitch.
PANTS RIGHT LEG:
- Work as for left leg, reversing back bottom shaping. (i.e. work short rows at left side
of bed.)
SUSPENDERS (Optional):
- Make two the same. Cast on 6 sts (for I-cord) or 5 sts (for rib) in MY, using closed
edge method and dial/gauge 1.5. Work even in plain knit (for I-cord) or 1x1 rib for
56 rows, or until the length is sufficient, when slightly stretched, to reach from the
bottom of the waistband at the front, over the shoulders, and to the back waistband.
Cast off.
FINISHING:
- Sew center crotch seam, then inside leg seams. Sew in all loose ends.
- Sew suspenders inside the waistband, close to the center. You may want to cross
the suspenders, or stitch them together in the center of the back. Accent with
buttons, lapel pins, or decorative stitches.
